Jaguars Battle to Scoreless Draw Against A&M–Victoria
San Antonio, TX- The Jaguar women's soccer team played to a hard-fought 0–0 draw against A&M–Victoria on Thursday afternoon at home, holding strong on the defensive end to earn a point in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Both teams managed five shots on goal, but neither side could break through in a match dominated by defensive organization and goalkeeping excellence. Senior goalkeeper Isabella Villarreal anchored the Jaguars' back line, collecting five saves to secure her the clean sheet.
The Jaguars created several dangerous chances throughout the match. Ana Barragan led the attack with three shots—two on goal—while Skylar Parker added two attempts, forcing early saves from Victoria keeper Jamie Noriega. Jasmin Dominguez also tested Noriega in the 54th minute, but her strike from distance was turned away.
A&M–San Antonio nearly grabbed the lead in the first half when Kenia Bustos's attempt in the 34th minute struck the post, coming inches from a go-ahead goal. The Jaguars kept the pressure on, earning multiple corners and maintaining possession deep into the opposition's half, but the visiting Jaguars' defense held firm.
On the other end, Villarreal stood tall between the posts, denying several quality looks from A&M–Victoria, including a close-range header in the 68th minute. The junior keeper's poise under pressure helped the Jaguars fend off late chances to preserve the clean sheet.
The result moves A&M–San Antonio to 4–9–2 overall and 3–5–1 in RRAC play, while A&M–Victoria goes to 7–3–5 and 4–2–3 in conference.
The Jaguars will return to action this weekend as they host North American University for Senior Day, looking to build on the momentum from Thursday's resilient defensive performance.
