Texas A&M–San Antonio Rallies Past Southwest, 5–2

Hobbs, NM- A&M–San Antonio used a commanding second half to pull away from the University of the Southwest for a 5–2 conference win Saturday afternoon.

The Jaguars (4–9–1, 3–5–0) overcame an early deficit after the Mustangs (1–12–1, 1–6–1) struck first just 11 minutes in. Roxana Bustamante opened the scoring for Southwest, finishing off a corner sequence from Joanna Estrada at the 11:16 mark. TAMUSA answered nine minutes later when Odet Mota leveled the score at 1–1 in the 20th minute. Southwest briefly regained the lead less than a minute later on Gizel Lopez's goal, assisted again by Estrada, to make it 2–1. The Jaguars continued pressing, and just before halftime, Samara Lopez netted the equalizer in the 41st minute to send the teams into the break tied 2–2.

The second half was all TAMUSA. Lopez tallied her second goal of the day in the 65th minute off an assist from Ana Barragan, giving the Jaguars their first lead. Dani Alegria added another just four minutes later—also assisted by Barragan—to extend the margin to 4–2. Barragan then capped off her stellar performance with a goal of her own in the 85th minute to seal the 5–2 victory.

Barragan finished with one goal and two assists, while Lopez recorded a brace and the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Vendela Lantz earned the win, making three saves on five shots faced. Texas A&M–San Antonio outshot Southwest 12–14 but was more clinical in front of goal, converting nine shots on target into five scores. The Jaguars also committed just five fouls and took four corner kicks.

The win marks TAMUSA's third conference victory of the season as they continue their late-season push.
