Women's Soccer Drops Two In RRAC Play

San Antono, TX- In a Thursday and Saturday conference homestand for the Jaguar women's soccer team, the Jaguars dropped two matches to two of the top teams in the RRAC losing to Xavier university 5-0 and 2-1 to LSU-Alexandria.

The match against Xavier saw the Jaguars play well in spurts in the first half, but when the whistle blew on the first half, the Gold Nuggets controlled all the statistics to include the scoreboard. The Gold Nuggets scored at the 1:05, 16:08, and 35:35 marks going into halftime with a commanding lead.

For the second half, the Jaguars were able to connect more quality play, looking like a side that could play with the best. They put together twenty minutes of good play and were able to keep the Gold Nuggets off the board. However, the Gold Nuggets put a goal in the net at the 65:31 mark and another at the 78:14 mark walking away with a statement victory.

In Saturday's match against LSU-Alexandria, the Jaguars came out and dictated the pace of play and possession right from the whistle. Quite frankly, they looked like a different side than who was on the pitch on Thursday. With high quality ball movement that saw the Jaguars connecting on precise passes, the Jaguars went up 1-0 at the 26:06 mark when Samara Lopez put an Ana Barragan right post rebound into the back of the net. The Jaguars would continue the first half with quality play with the ball coming up from the back, in what is probably the best 45:00 of play all season, taking 1-0 lead into a halftime.

The second half could be described as a complete 180, unfortunately. The Generals of LSU-Alexandria came out possessed and absolutely took the match to the Jaguars looking like a rejuvenated side. The Jaguars were not able to put together any sort of connected quality play until the final ten minutes of play or so. Unfortunately, it was too little too late as the Generals connected on and buried two goals at the 38:45 and 48:24 marks securing a 2-1 victory.

The two matches put the Jaguars at 2-7-1 overall and 1-3 in RRAC play. The Jaguars will next go on the road to face Louisiana Chirstian and LSU-Shreveport, putting the Jaguars against two more of the conference's top teams.
