Jaguar Men Advance To Second Round Of RRAC Tournament

San Antonio, TX- History was made on Thursday afternoon as Texas A&M University–San Antonio men's soccer punched its ticket to the second round of the conference tournament for the first time in program history, defeating Texas A&M–Texarkana 3–0 at home.

The Jaguars dominated from start to finish, displaying sharp attacking play and a disciplined defense.

Junior forward Jacob Olivares was the star of the match, scoring a brace within a five-minute span. Olivares opened the scoring in the 34th minute, finishing off a precise assist from Ronald Aguilar to give A&M–San Antonio the early edge. Moments later, Olivares struck again in the 38th minute to double the lead before halftime.

In the second half, the Jaguars continued to control possession, and it was Oscar Hernandez who sealed the victory in the 60th minute. Aguilar again provided the assist, his second of the match, threading a pass that Hernandez buried into the net to make it 3–0.

On the defensive end, goalkeeper Marco Matranga anchored the backline with two second-half saves to preserve the clean sheet. The Jaguars' defense held Texarkana to just seven total shots and two on goal, while A&M–San Antonio tallied 16 shots, seven of which were on target.

"Our players rose to the occasion today," head coach Roberto Jaramillo said. "This team has worked hard all year to reach this point, and making the second round for the first time is a testament to their belief and commitment."

With the win, A&M–San Antonio improves to 11–3–2 overall and will move on to face LSU-Shreveport in the conference semifinals.
