Aguilar Produces a Hattrick Securing Jaguar Win
Kerrville, TX- The Jaguar men's soccer team traveled to Kerrville to take on the Schreiner University (NCAA Division III, Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) Mountaineers and were served notice within the first three minutes of the match. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, however, the Jaguars eventually woke up to claim the result.
The Mountaineers almost immediately put the Jaguars on their heels with two quick strikes at the 2:23 and 2:54 marks. The Jaguars were left reeling thereafter until settling in and producing some pressure of their own. The Jaguars ultimately out shot the Mountaineers 9-3 in the first half, but they were unable to convert any of the attempts going into half time facing a 2-0 deficit.
It did not take long into the second half before Ronaldo Aguilar inserted and asserted himself into the match. The All-American and reining Red River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year put the Jaguars on the board with a strike at the 46:19 mark (Josh Olivares assist), serving some notice of his own. Just a mere three minutes later he struck again (Clever Sibomana assist) at the 49:10 mark. Feeling left out of the scoring frenzy, Isaiah Gonzalez put one through at the 49:37 mark (Josh Olivares assist) giving the Jaguars a 3-2 lead. Of course, Aguilar, not to be outshined, put the Jaguars in command of the match with a hattrick goal at the 54:00 mark (Oscar Hernandez assist). From there the Jaguars were content to play solid defense until slipping up at the 80:46 mark when they allowed a final Mountaineer goal. The match ended with the Jaguars earning a 4-3 win. t
Head Coach Roberto Jaramillo said, "We were backed into a corner early on, but our guys showed a lot of character tonight, and that is something we can be proud of. At the same time, however, we must acknowledge it was not our best performance. After 90:00, though, we found ourselves in the win column, and that speaks to the belief and resilience of this group."
