Jaguars Outlast OLLU in Overtime
San Antonio, TX- Texas A&M–San Antonio clawed back from an early deficit and dominated the overtime period to earn a gritty 67–59 road win over crosstown foe Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday evening.
After trailing by as many as 11 and entering the fourth quarter tied at 47–47, the Jaguars leaned on defensive pressure and timely free-throw shooting to outlast the Saints (OLLU). A&M–San Antonio outscored OLLU 10–2 in the extra frame.
Jaguar guard Aniyah Lewis delivered a standout performance, scoring a team-high 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting and going 7-of-8 at the free-throw line. Her five points in overtime proved crucial, including three made free throws that extended the Jaguars' lead for good.
Forward TaMya Whitemon added a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Evelyn Lorenzo contributed 12 points and three assists despite OLLU's focused defensive pressure. The Jaguars' depth also made an impact, as the bench combined for 19 points—a key factor in the comeback.
A&M–San Antonio struggled from the field early, shooting just 25.7% overall and 11.4% from three, but the Jaguars made up for it through relentless defense, forcing 23 turnovers and grabbing 20 offensive rebounds. Those extra possessions turned into 19 points off turnovers and 18 second-chance points.
OLLU was led by Shayla Dede, who scored a game-high 17 points and totaled seven rebounds, while Alexandra Westerdijk Martin added 13 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. The Saints, however, were held to just 1-of-7 shooting in overtime as A&M–San Antonio tightened its defensive rotations.
Trailing 33–25 at halftime, the Jaguars opened the third quarter with an energetic defensive burst, using three steals from forward Victoria Adeniran and key baskets from Whitemon to erase the deficit. The Jaguars briefly took an eight-point lead early in the fourth, but OLLU answered with a 10–0 run that forced the game into overtime.
In the extra period, A&M–San Antonio's composure at the line proved decisive. The Jaguars went 6-for-10 from the stripe in OT while holding OLLU scoreless for the final three minutes.
