Jaguars Rally From Eight-Run Deficit to Walk Off Texas Wesleyan, 10-9
San Antonio, TX- In a thrilling display of grit and resilience, the Texas A&M–San Antonio Jaguars stormed back from a nine-run deficit to defeat Texas Wesleyan 10-9 in eight innings Saturday afternoon at the TAMUSA Softball Field. The Jaguars improved to 4–3 on the season, while the visiting Rams fell to 2–5.
Texas Wesleyan exploded early, plating four runs in the first inning and five more in the second to build a commanding 8–0 lead. The Rams capitalized on three Jaguar errors and a flurry of extra-base hits, including doubles from Haylie Delarosa, Arieanna Hernandez, and Kadynce Crenshaw.
But A&M–San Antonio refused to back down.
Led by senior catcher Kalia Flaherty, who went 3-for-5 with a home run (first career homerun and first homerun ever hit by a Jaguar in the new A&M-San Antonio softball stadium) and two RBIs, the Jaguars chipped away steadily. In the third inning, Alyssa Arnall doubled home two runs, and Sari Travis drew a bases-loaded walk to ignite the comeback, cutting the Rams' lead to 9–5. Flaherty's two-run homer to left-center in the fourth made it 9–7 and electrified the Jaguars' dugout.
After Texas Wesleyan added an unearned run in the fifth, A&M–San Antonio evened the score in the bottom of the sixth. Samara Aguilera delivered the pivotal blow—a two-run double to deep center—scoring Kaylee Barlow and Kristianna Luera to tie.
Extra innings set the stage for a dramatic finish. With the international tiebreaker runner placed on second, Luera advanced to third on a flyout, and with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Travis capped her all-around performance by driving a fielder's choice grounder to short that allowed Luera to score the winning run.
Travis (1–0) also earned the win in relief, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out three. Krisilyn Corral started the game and was tagged for eight runs in the opening inning before giving way to Hannah Schultz, who steadied the Jaguars with a scoreless second frame.
Offensively, A&M–San Antonio was powered by balance up and down the lineup. Along with Flaherty's three hits, Aguilera went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Luera scored three times while walking three times, and Arnall drove in two and crossed the plate once. The Jaguars drew nine walks as a team and stole a base courtesy of Luera.
For Texas Wesleyan, Delarosa reached base four times with two hits, two walks, and three runs scored, while Blanco had two RBIs, and Houston went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases. Despite a powerful start, the Rams were undone by three errors and 13 runners left on base.
The Jaguars will look to carry their momentum into next weekend's road trip at Jarvis Christian College, which starts RRAC play.
