Vasquez named to NFCA All-Region team
SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M University–San Antonio's softball team claimed its first all-region honor this week when Peyton Vasquez was named to the NAIA Region II Second Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Vasquez was named to her all-region team at the second base position; she split her time this season at second base and right field for the Jaguars. She was one of eight players from the Red River Athletic Conference to earn NFCA all-region honors.
A junior transfer from Porter, Texas (Cisco College), Vasquez was A&M–San Antonio's leading hitter in 2022 as she led the Jaguars with a .396 batting average. Her 67 hits, 25 walks, and .472 on-base percentage also led the team.
Vasquez' offensive talent was not limited to her plate appearances as she was even more dangerous on the basepaths. Her 45 stolen bases during the season led the RRAC and ranked 13th in the NAIA.
A complete player, Vasquez was also a reliable fielder for the Jaguars in 2022, committing only two errors in 97 chances. Her .979 fielding percentage ranked third on the team among non-pitcher starters.
The all-region honor is the second postseason award for Vasquez this season. Last month she and teammate Andrea Ortiz were named to the All-RRAC First Team, becoming the first A&M–San Antonio Jaguars to earn conference first team honors.
