Five softball players named NFCA Scholar-Athletes

SAN ANTONIO – Five players from Texas A&M University–San Antonio's softball team were honored as All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the school announced Thursday.

Kameryn Casares, Vanessa Garces, Andrea Ortiz, Ebbie Rodriguez, and Diana Tovar were the five Jaguars recognized by the NFCA. Garces, who was one of the first two varsity student-athletes to graduate from A&M–San Antonio last month, earned Scholar-Athlete recognition for the second consecutive year.

To be recognized as a Scholar-Athlete, a student athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters.

The Jaguars completed their second varsity softball season in 2022. Ten different softball players have been named All-America Scholar-Athletes in the history of the program.
