Jaguars place four on All-RRAC Second Team
SAN ANTONIO – The Jaguars of Texas A&M University–San Antonio placed four players on the All-Red River Athletic Conference Second Team as the league announced its all-conference teams and award winners Wednesday.
After the Jaguars completed their inaugural season in 2021, four players – Sidney Garza, Melissa Gonzalez, Caty Rangel, and Ebbie Rodriguez were named to the all-conference Second Team. Additionally, freshman utility player Kameryn Casares was also honored by the league, being named to the conference's Champions of Character team.
Garza, a sophomore outfielder from San Antonio (Ranger College), hit .263 for the Jaguars and compiled a .330 on-base percentage. She recorded six multiple-hit games during the season.
Gonzalez, a freshman transfer from San Antonio (Texas Southern), was named to the Second Team at first base. She led the team in hitting with a .269 batting average and also led the Jaguars with a .388 slugging percentage. She hit the first home run and the first triple in team history.
Rangel, a sophomore from Austin, Texas (Ranger College), was named to the Second Team at the second base position. She hit .268 and led the team in total bases with 31. On the field, Rangel compiled a .990 fielding percentage, committing only one error during the season; her .990 fielding percentage led all Jaguars with more than 40 defensive chances during the season.
Rodriguez, a sophomore from Helotes, Texas (Angelina College), was the top pitcher for the Jaguars in 2021. She led the team in ERA (3.12) and in wins (4). Rodriguez' 1-0 shutout at Jarvis Christian in April was the first-ever shutout in team history.
Casares (Edinburg, Texas / Vela) led the team with 11 RBIs, while her nine walks was second on the team behind Gonzalez, who drew 10 walks.
