Jaguars conclude softball season at Houston-Victoria
VICTORIA, Texas – The Jaguars of Texas A&M University–San Antonio concluded their inaugural softball season Monday with a narrow 4-2 loss to Houston–Victoria.
A two-run third inning gave the visitors a 2-1 lead before UHV rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win and the series sweep.
The visiting Jaguars (9-24) led off the top of the third when pitcher Ryanne Limon (San Antonio, Texas / Smithson Valley) led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. She was replaced on base with Caty Rangel (Austin, Texas / Ranger College), who hit into a fielder's choice play. The next batter, Sidney Garza (San Antonio, Texas / Ranger College) knocked a double to deep left-centerfield, which allowed Rangel to score from first base.
With Garza moving to third base on the attempt to throw out Rangel at the plate, she then scored on a sacrifice fly from Vanessa Garces (Edinburg, Texas / Coastal Bend College).
Clarisa Montelongo (Houston, Texas / Challenge Early College HS), Gabby Mitchell (San Antonio, Texas / Texas A&M International) and Natalia Guajardo (San Antonio, Texas / Stevens) also knocked base hits in the game for the visiting Jaguars.
A&M–San Antonio finished in sixth place in the Red River Athletic Conference. As provisional members of the NAIA and the RRAC, the Jaguars were ineligible for the postseason conference tournament despite finishing in sixth place, ahead of Southwest (N.M.).
