Jaguars split non-conference doubleheader at Southwestern (Texas)

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Jaguars of Texas A&M University–San Antonio split a Tuesday non-conference doubleheader at Southwestern (Texas), falling 4-3 in the opener before taking the nightcap by a score of 5-4.

Jaclynn Lizama went the distance for the Jaguars (9-14) in game two, tossing seven complete innings while striking out three batters and allowing only two earned runs.

Gabby Mitchell (pictured) knocked three hits in game two, leading four Jaguars with multiple base hits in the contest. Melissa Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the third, when the Jaguars struck for three runs.

After Southwestern (10-16) tied the game in the bottom of the third, the Jaguars added two more runs in the top of the fourth when Natalia Guajardo knocked a two-RBI single.

Sidney Garza knocked two hits and scored a run for the Jaguars in the second game, while Penelope Garcia added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

In the opening game, the Jaguars led 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning before the Pirates rallied to claim the victory. Guajardo also knocked a two-RBI hit in the opening game.

The Jaguars return to action Saturday when they host intra-city rival Our Lady of the Lake in a doubleheader at Harlandale ISD's Tejeda Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for noon Saturday.
