Jaguars record program's first shutout in doubleheader split

HAWKINS, Texas – The Jaguars of Texas A&M–San Antonio split their Saturday doubleheader at Jarvis Christian which included the team's first-ever shutout in school history.

The Jaguars (8-12, 3-5 RRAC) won the opener 1-0 thanks to a stellar pitching performance by Ebbie Rodriguez (Helotes, Texas / Angelina College). Jarvis Christian took game two by rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 4-3.

A&M–San Antonio and Jarvis Christian conclude their Red River Athletic Conference series Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for noon.

GAME ONE

Rodriguez (pictured) tossed a three-hit shutout and outdueled her counterpart Allie Gonzales, who held the Jaguars to three hits.

The Jaguars scored the game's only run when Kameryn Casares (Edinburg, Texas / Vela) hit a long foul-ball out that turned into a sacrifice fly when Penelope Garcia (Bandera, Texas / Bandera) scored from third base.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs had no answer for Rodriguez, who struck out a season-high six batters in the game. She had four 1-2-3 innings and retired 13 consecutive batters between the second and sixth innings.

Casares and Garcia each had singles in the game. Melissa Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas / Texas Southern) knocked a double in the fourth inning that moved Garcia to third base, setting up Casares' RBI.

GAME TWO

Yvonne Hernandez' long, two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh capped a three-run rally as the Bulldogs salvaged a split of the doubleheader.

Garcia, Gabby Mitchell (San Antonio, Texas / Texas A&M International), and Caty Rangel (Austin, Texas / Ranger College) each knocked RBIs for the Jaguars in the game.

A&M–San Antonio put runners on base in four of the first five innings but went down in order in each of the last two innings.
