Jaguars head to Kerrville for doubleheader at Schreiner

LIVE VIDEO | LIVE STATS

KERRVILLE – The Texas A&M–San Antonio softball team returns to action Wednesday when they travel to Kerrville to face the Mountaineers of Schreiner University. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Jaguars (2-3) are coming off their first series in NAIA and Red River Athletic Conference play last week. The new program lost three straight to Texas A&M–Texarkana, a team that is considered to be a dark horse for the 2021 RRAC title by some in the league.

The doubleheader at Schreiner will mark games Nos. 3 and 4 for the Jaguars against opponents from the NCAA's Division III classification. TAMUSA opened the season with a doubleheader sweep over St. Thomas in Houston on Feb. 10.

Texas A&M–San Antonio is led by outfielder Britney Garcia. The sophomore transfer from Weslaco, Texas (Coastal Bend College) has hit safely in all five TAMUSA games this season; Garcia is batting .467 with a .500 on-base percentage.

In the pitcher's circle, the Jaguars have received strong showings from sophomore Ebbie Rodriguez and freshman Ryanne Limon. Rodriguez (Helotes, Texas / Angelina College) has a 2.92 ERA over 12 innings pitched, and started all three games in which she appeared. Limon, meanwhile, has a 3.23 ERA over 13 innings pitched, and allowed just one earned run during her appearance at Texarkana.

Schreiner enters the contest with a record of 2-4, which includes being swept in a doubleheader by TAMUSA's conference opponent Houston–Victoria, the team predicted to win the RRAC in the preseason coaches' poll. The Mountaineers also have doubleheader splits with Division III peers Howard Payne and Concordia Texas.

The Mountaineer bats are led by Hannah Kollmansberger, who is hitting .667 (10 of 15) with six doubles and 12 of the team's 28 RBIs thus far. Bri Wodtke leads Schreiner pitchers with a 2-1 record in three starts.

As Schreiner is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the school is following the conference's guidelines of not allowing spectators at athletic events. Live video and live stats will be provided for the doubleheader.
