Jaguars Win Game Of Cards Over Jarvis Christian

San Antonio, TX- On an afternoon set aside to honor A&M-San Antonio's faculty, The Jaguar men's soccer team opened conference play with a match against the Jarvis Christian University Bulldogs where the center referee seemingly had to steal all the red and yellow cards out of an Uno deck just to get through the full 90:00 match. Fortunately, despite the highly chaotic match, the Jaguars came away with a 2-0 win.

In a hold my Gatorade moment, not to be out done by Ana Barragan of the women's soccer team, the Jaguars scored the quickest goal in the history of the program with a Joey De La Torre goal (Clever Sibomana assist) at the 00:33 mark and then Ronald Aguilar put one in (Joshua Olivares assist) at the 6:33 mark. To say the game was already won at this point is not hyperbolic. The reality is that the match was never in doubt, and the Bulldogs were never able to put anything together other than a bevy of cheap fouls and earned cards.

All told, there were fifteen cards issued in the match with the Bulldogs being issued twelve of the fifteen. In the second half alone, the Bulldogs were issued nine cards to include two red cards. Playing with only nine for a good portion of the second half, all the Bulldogs could do was to take eight and play a high defense, which was successful at keeping the Jaguars off the board. Essentially, at every scoring opportunity the Jaguars were called offside. It became one of those types of matches that just could not end fast enough for everyone involved. The Jaguars were able to secure the 2-0 win, however, and at the end of the day that's what matters.

Not to be lost in all the chaos, the Jaguars honorary coach from the faculty was Dr. Durant Frantzen who is the Department Chair of Criminology and Criminal Justice. The Jaguars appreciate not only his contributions but the contributions of all the faculty and instructors at A&M-San Antonio.

Following the match Coach Roberto Jaramillo said, "I want to thank Dr. Frantzen for coming out and supporting us. It was great having him out there. Regarding the match, we are not going to complain about a win, but it is a shame that more soccer was not able to be played. I think Jarvis has quite a few quality pieces, and I would have liked to have been able to play them straight up for 90 minutes. With the soccer that was played, though, I like what we were able to put together for the most part, but we have got to finish better. There were several goals left out there that we will need to burry with the better teams in our conference."
