Amir Simpson Named RRAC Offensive Player of the Week

WACO, Texas – Amir Simpson of Texas A&M University-San Antonio claimed the RRAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 11-17, while Jeronimo Larrain Olivares was selected RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the fourth set of conference winners for the 2023 men's soccer season.

Simpson netted goals in both of the Jaguars' conference victories last week. The freshman forward from Converse, Texas, scored in a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana on Thursday and provided the difference in a 3-2 triumph over RRAC defending champion LSU Shreveport on Saturday. Simpson now has three goals on the season. TAMUSA climbed to 2-0 in RRAC play and 3-1 on the season.

Olivares won individual battles to solidify LCU's backline in a 3-0 shutout over its crosstown rival, LSU Alexandria. The sophomore midfielder from Santiago, Chile, and the Wildcats' defense limited the Generals to three shots on goal en route to LCU's first men's soccer victory over LSUA.  The Wildcats are 1-0 in conference action and 2-2-1 overall.
