Pena Wins RRAC Golf Championship and Named RRAC POY

San Antonio, TX- Not only did Jacob Pena become the first individual conference champion in Jaguar golf history, but he also became the first ever (individual or team) to win a conference championship in A&M-San Antonio athletics' history. Pena finished atop the leaderboard of the RRAC Men's Golf Championship going one under par for the 54-hole tournament. For his efforts, Pena was also named as the RRAC Golfer of the Year.

Head Coach Chisti Cano said, "I am extremely proud of Jacob and all he has accomplished as a student and athlete at Texas A&M San Antonio. After he captured his first collegiate win, I knew this was going to be his year for the conference. Being on his home course and the experience of winning earlier this spring gave him the confidence to get it done. He's worked extremely hard for us his whole career and it was only fitting that he be the first Red River Conference Champion for Texas A&M San Antonio Athletics."

The men's team finished in a disappointing fourth place behind Our Lady of the Lake, UH-Victoria, and the team champions (surprising everyone), University of the Southwest. For the tournament the team shot 38 over par placing two individuals in the top five, Pena and David Rodriguez (tied for 5th place). For their efforts, Pena and Rodriguez were both named to the All-Conference Team.

Pena will now compete in the NAIA National Golf Championship in Silvis, Illinois starting on May 20th and running through May 23rd.
