Men's Golf to Begin RRAC Play
Victoria, TX- The Texas A&M-San Antonio Men's Golf Team will begin Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) tournament play today in hopes of improving upon their past results. Coach Christi Cano likes where her group is at, "We are excited to get back to Victoria for conference as this team has quite a bit of competitive experience on the course having played the UHV Fall Classic and the Claud Jacobs Invitational this year. The team works hard and has shown resilience this past season which has given them some confidence heading into this week."
In 2021, the Jaguars competed in the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) conference tournament, and they finished in fourth place as a team with a top fifteen individual finish for Javier Jazo. In 2022, the Jaguars played in the RRAC tournament and finished in fourth place, but just out of third place, and Jacob Pena finished in the top ten with an eighth place individual finished. No team or individual, however, has ever advanced to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tournament, and the Jaguars hope to change that this year.
Advancing to the NAIA tournament would take nothing less than a team and or individual win, which is something the Jaguars are capable of producing. "Any team and individual in the field who is playing well has a chance to win the Conference tournament. Donny Harper has gained momentum with his strong play as of late and Jacob Pena always looks for victory when he tees it up at Victoria Country Club as it is his home course."
