Jaguars in third place after first day of RRAC Tournament
VICTORIA, Texas – A stronger showing in the second round of the Red River Athletic Conference men's golf tournament Monday vaulted Texas A&M University–San Antonio in third place after one day of competition.
The Jaguars shot an 18-over-par 306 as a team during Monday's second round and moved past Louisiana Christian by four strokes to end the day. A&M–San Antonio compiled a two-round score of 628, 12 strokes behind second-place Our Lady of the Lake.
Jaguar golfers Jacob Peña and Ethan Perez, two of the team's newcomers for the 2021-22 season, are leading the team and tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard. After carding an 84 in the opening round, Peña, a freshman from Victoria, shot par in the second round to finish the day with a 156.
Perez, a sophomore from San Antonio, shaved eight strokes off his first-round score when he carded a 74 in Monday's second round for the Jaguars.
David Rodriguez (pictured), a sophomore from Edinburg, Texas, is in 13th place after rounds of 77 and 80 for A&M–San Antonio, one shot behind his teammates.
Alejandro Guarneros and Javier Jazo each turned in two-round scores of 166 Monday.
Houston–Victoria, the host institution playing at the Victoria Country Club, shot a 5-under-par 283 as a team in the second round and lead the event with a cumulative score of 586.
The Jaguars conclude play at the RRAC Championship on Tuesday.
