Jaguar Women Beat Out Weather and SAGU

San Antonio, TX- The Jaguar women's soccer team won their season and home opener 1-0 against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) in a match that saw a weather delay and ultimately a weather stoppage of play to end the match.

The Jaguar's came out aggressively putting SAGU on their heels to start the match. The quick start led to a 1st half goal from Sophomore Rheanna Lopez. The top part of the 1st half saw many more opportunities for the Jaguars that were just missed. SAGU was able to find some rhythm and momentum in the later part of the opening half, which saw more opportunities develop for them and less for the Jaguars.

The 2nd half saw both sides trading momentum up until a lighting delay at the 25th minute. Following a 30 minute delay the game was able to re-start, which led to SAGU's best scoring opportunity. The Jaguar's misplayed a ball at the top of the box leading to a turnover. The turnover led to a SAGU opportunity with only Jaguar's goal keeper Maram Abdeljaber between SAGU and an open goal. The ball was deflected as Abdeljaber made an attempt at a stop leaving SAGU's Sampa Chisanga with a wide open net. Fortunately, for the Jaguars the shot went wide to the right preserving their 1-0 lead. Soon after this play lightning was detected again, and the game was ultimately called. However, the game had progressed past 70 minutes allowing the result to stand.

The Jaguars return to action again on Saturday at 10:00am against Sul Ross State University. The match is another home matach to be played on the campus of Texas A&M-San Antonio.
